The Matriculant of the Year competition is once again searching for South Africa's most outstanding matric learners. This prestigious competition recognises young people who have demonstrated excellence not only in academics but also in leadership, sport, culture, and community involvement.
For many learners, this competition is more than just an award. It is an opportunity to be recognised for years of hard work, dedication, and commitment both inside and outside the classroom.

Selection Process
The competition follows a structured selection process.
First, all eligible entries are reviewed.
From the entries received, 25 semi finalists are selected. These semi finalists must sign an undertaking confirming that they intend to study at the University of the Free State in 2027.
After further evaluation, 14 top finalists are chosen to participate in the final round of the competition.
Final Round Dates
The final competition takes place from 5 October 2026 to 7 October 2026.
Finalists are required to attend the entire programme and must be available throughout the event period.
Prizes and Benefits
Successful finalists will receive bursaries from the University of the Free State as well as prize money and gifts from competition sponsors.
Accommodation for finalists and their parents will be provided during the final event. Meals for finalists will also be covered.
The value of the bursaries and prize packages will be announced by the organisers at a later stage.
Closing Date
Learners should ensure that their applications are submitted before 31 July 2026.
Submitting your application early gives you enough time to resolve any missing documents and avoid last minute challenges.
Why You Should Apply
Many talented learners underestimate their achievements and never apply for opportunities like this. If you have worked hard throughout your high school years and have built a strong record of achievement, this competition could open doors to valuable funding, recognition, and future opportunities.
Take the opportunity to showcase your journey, celebrate your achievements, and compete among some of South Africa's top matric learners.
